1949 Silvertone 8052

Silvertone 8052 radio

Six tubes ~ AC/DC ~ AM BC band ~ sold by Sears Roebuck

Getting this little radio working properly took quite a long time. It took a lot of cleaning, especialy the push button tuning mechanism, and most of the components are crammed in one side of the 'U' shaped chassis making compnent changing tricky. It also uses loctal tubes, I spent a lot of time trying to clean those tube pins and bases to get reliable contacts.

Silvertone chassis The tubes are:
  • 7B7 RF amplifier
  • 14Q7 converter
  • 7B7 IF amplifier
  • 7C6 det-avc-AF
  • 50A5 AF output
  • 35Y4 rectifier
Paper and electrolytic capacitors were replaced, together with eight out of spec resistors. The RF coil, L1, was open circuit at one pin. Removing this and making repairs took some time. After re-alignment the radio worked just fine.
