Centralab PEC (printed electronic circuit) Information
This information is from the 1950's. The Centralab catalog of 1954 says that 45,000,000 PECs are now in use. A 1951 Centralab ad says that PECs are used in 60% of radios and TVs. They are, I believe, hybrid circuits consisting of conductive tracks and resistors printed on to a ceramic substrate, combined with ceramic capacitors. The whole circuit is encapsulated to form a wafer shaped component. I assume that they gave cost savings to the equipment manufacturer in the form of reduced equipment assembly time, and perhaps they were cheaper than individual components. Typical prices in 1954 were 50c to $1.50, depending on the complexity of the device. The components are marked "CRL" PC-2 to PC-92PC-100 to PC-186 |
