Bendix 735M

1953 alarm clock radio, 5 tubes, BC band

This radio was made by the Bendix Radio Division of the Bendix Aircraft Corperation, Baltimore, Maryland. It has a basic five tube chassis. There is no power transformer, but the radio is marked 'ac' only as ac power is required by the electric clock. All that was required was a good cleaning, replacement of the capacitors and one resistor, and freeing a sticking tuning capacitor. Three of the tubes, which are still in good condition, are marked Bendix, so perhaps Bendix used better quality tubes. When used as an alarm clock the radio comes on to wake you, and the clock still works fine, I used it by my bed for several months.

The tubes are 7 pin: 35W4, 12BE6, 12BA6, 12AT6, 50C5

The schematic, which is on the base of the radio, shows a "moulded coupling unit" between the audio tubes. The device in this particular radio is a Centralab PC-71 PEC.
